Growing Out Volunteers
Growing Out is London Wildlife Trust’s exciting new project which works with young adults with mild learning disabilities.
Each week we work with a group of around 10 young adults to build their skills in gardening and practical conservation work. Volunteers will help 2 London Wildlife Trust staff members to support participants throughout the project.
Day to day this will be:
- Supporting participants to complete tasks in food growing, and practical conservation.
- Encouraging participants to fill their learning journals which log work and skills gained.
- Accompanying the group on visits to nature reserves, parks and gardens in London.
- Motivating participants.
Volunteers need no previous experience in any area of this project. All we are looking for is an open mind, lots of energy and a willingness to engage with the group.
Special Requirements Volunteers will undergo a Criminal Record Bureaux.

Barking Riverside Conservation Volunteers
Volunteering sessions run weekly on a Wednesday and on the 3rd Saturday of the month, starting at 10.30am.
Volunteers help London Wildlife Trust to manage the habitats at Barking Riverside including the Ripple Nature Reserve, to promote biodiversity and access on site.
Barking Riverside is home to the protected water vole, some rare invertebrates (including the rare brown banded carder bee) and provides ample foraging grounds for winter waders. Volunteers help to improve habitats for these species as well as others. During the winter months (October to March) volunteers help with practical conservation work, such as scrub clearance, and during the summer months volunteers learn how to conduct wildlife surveys.
The sessions generally run from 10.30am till 2pm or 3pm. Volunteers need to wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear and bring lunch and water. Full instruction on tool use will be provided on the day. We also provide tea/coffee and biscuits.
